Carrara Marble Water Stains

A yellow brownish stain has begun to appear on the marble bench slab.

When water is cyclically applied to carrara marble the water will penetrate the marble surface time and time again. If these deposits are exposed to water they can rust and leach through to the surface causing the yellow brown stains. A marble stain is when a substance is absorbed into the pores of the marble. Cover the area with plastic wrap for 24 hours.

Marble is not very absorbent so it does not stain easily. You can use a cleaner specifically meant for marble or store bought detergent. Rust stains carrara marble contains little bits of iron. Over time the water will begin to rust the metallic deposits inside the stone and create a yellowish stain inside the stone.

Clean the marble with warm water and detergent. This is because the pores are closed down in the polishing process. It started out faint has gotten brighter and appears to be growing. The process of making a marble poultice is very important considering that most of the stains can be removed.

Iron deposits that are embedded in white marble tile especially carrara marble are typically the cause of this type of stain. As the water evaporates it moves to the surface carrying the rust with it creating a rust stain. Depending on what the specific stain is the solvent can be 6 percent hydrogen. In situations where the carrara marble is constantly exposed to water the water can absorb and oxidize the iron so it rusts.

Rub the paste into the stain with a soft cloth.
